Eighteen industrial projects in Lin-gang Special Area kicked off on July 7. With total investment of 48 billion yuan ($6.84 billion), the value of their industrial output is predicted to reach around 80 billion yuan.

The projects, which began in the first half of this year, center on integrated circuits (IC), new energy vehicles (NEV), aviation and aerospace, artificial intelligence, biomedicine, and other major industries.

Some of the projects, such as the Galaxycore Semiconductor project and the SenseTime project, are meant to contribute to the development of a full-fledged industrial chain. They will strengthen collaboration with existing upstream and downstream enterprises in chip manufacturing, artificial intelligence (AI) computing, and other fields in order to improve the industrial chain.

The projects are also expected to improve the industrial structure in Lin-gang Special Area. For instance, the Lanwan Jinping new energy project focuses on the research and development (R&D) and manufacturing of energy storage equipment and systems, effectively completing the NEV industrial chain.

In addition, SAEM is capable of completing independent R&D for intelligent production line technology for large aircraft components.

As for the biomedical industry, Lin-gang Special Area is home to Zhen'ge Biotech's leading technology for the scale-up culture of animal cells, as well as Dejian Conghe's advanced continuous fermentation technology and unique technology for protein drugs.

In the semiconductor industry, Simic Holdings is dedicated to solving a series of difficult technical challenges, such as radio frequency and millimeter-wave while ACM Research is devoted to new products of IC cleaning tools.

Zhu Zhisong, executive deputy director of the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, said that Lin-gang Special Area will continue to pursue industrial concentration and live up to its reputation as the "oriental chip harbor", "Life Science Blue Bay (Shengming Lanwan)" and "jumbo jet zone".
