A Panamanian-flagged cargo vessel, laden with approximately 14,000 metric tons of steel products by Shagang Group, departed from Zhangjiagang on Jan 13, bound for Thailand, a participant in the Belt and Road Initiative.
This shipment includes a variety of products such as steel plates, round bars, coils, and electrical steel, with a total value of 48 million yuan ($6.87 million). These materials will primarily be used for infrastructure projects in Thailand, including bridges and sports stadiums.
With its integrated production, sales, and research capabilities, as well as its ability to quickly develop and deliver products, Shagang has now secured a raft of overseas orders. In 2025, the company's exports of steel products increased by 13 percent compared to 2024.
"In 2026, Shagang plans to establish more offices in countries and regions such as Thailand and parts of Africa to further strengthen its sales efforts," said Lu Haiping, assistant general manager of Shagang International Trade.
"Shagang has now exported more than 700 different kinds of products, with those shipped to Belt and Road Initiative countries accounting for well over half of the total."
