Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District hosted the launching ceremony for Yangtze River Delta Book Club on Jan 21.
Created with the people from the Yangtze River Delta region as target readers, the club aims to set up a platform for them by arranging regular cultural forums and symposiums, theme exhibitions and culture galas. Celebrities from the fields of economy and culture will be invited to give lectures and communicate with the readers.
The Yangtze River Delta region boasts well-developed publishing and copyright industries which the club will further promote and support.
Cao Jian, general manager of Shanghai Far East Publishers, said that their press would take part in the club to promote the exchange and communication of regional culture.
Min Shilin, an official from the administration committee of Shanghai Hongqiao CBD, also stressed that they would build the club into a cultural brand to improve the region's soft power and thus drive the economic strength of local cities.
The club will be held every two weeks at the Hongqiao Import Commodity Exchange and Trade Center but will also cooperate with major cities in the Yangtze River Delta region to hold "mobile lectures". Readers can communicate with each other and the organizers online through a WeChat official account and WeChat group.
