Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District
Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District (CBD) is located west of downtown Shanghai and covers 86 square kilometers. 27-square-kilometers of its total area contain its main function area and the remaining 59- square-kilometers are for expansion. The core area of Hongqiao CBD is about 4.7 square kilometers.
Positioned as a first class global business district, Hongqiao CBD will integrate the function and development of high-end business and trading, and conventions and exhibitions. It will also serve as transportation hub to spur on the city’s economic development and promote the adjustment of urban space layout and boost the construction of the Shanghai International Trade Center.
The zone will act as a new engine for further development in the Yangtze River Delta area, according to the 13th Five-Year Development Plan (2016-20) recently released by the Shanghai Municipal Government.
To achieve its goal, the Hongqiao CBD administration committee said it will accelerate construction work and integrate a series of development characteristics. For example, as part of the construction of the National Green Demonstration Area, all newly-built structures will be required to be green buildings.
The committee estimates that approximately 95 percent of buildings in its core area will have roof sealing work completed by the end of the year. The committee will also promote the construction of supporting facilities, such as healthcare, education, culture, sports and talent apartments.
The zone’s first tour route and demonstration area, with a fusion of business, tourism and culture, will be launched in May. It will show the characteristic development of Hongqiao CBD to visitors.
By the end of 2015, a total of 288 buildings at the core area (82 percent of the total number of buildings) were completed. So far, more than 220 international and domestic enterprises have settled in the Hongqiao CBD.
