Overall improvements and environmental upgrading to greet CIIE

Specific tasks have been set forth to ensure the successful hosting of the first China International Import Expo (CIIE), according to the working conference of the organizing committee of Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District (CBD) held on Jan 16.
The tasks include the overall improvement of urban appearance and environmental upgrading around the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, a venue for the expo.
As for the overall improvement of urban appearance, construction waste should be cleaned in time; the random use of idle plots and its absence from management should be called off; posters, advertisement, roadside stall business and shop signs should be properly managed; roads with cracks, pavement damage and corrosion should be repaired; water courses should be cleared and revetments should be restored.
In terms of the environmental upgrading, waterborne platforms should be established according to conditions of different watercourses and ecological coastal areas. Waterfront green areas should also be constructed in hope of improving the water environment.
More vegetation should be planted along the road, bridges should be painted, bus routes should be optimized and public transport should be updated so as to offer a better travel experience for local residents and visitors.
According to the conference, most of the tasks should be finished in the first half of this year and all of them should be completed before September.
The inaugural CIIE will take place on Nov 5, 2018 and more than 100 countries and regions are expected to participate in the expo, with state leaders, entrepreneurs and scholars from various countries taking part.
