The lighting art exhibition of 2017 Lumieres Shanghai started in Hongqiao Central Business District, Shanghai on Nov 23 and will run through Jan 7 next year, free of charge.

Themed on bizarre and motley, more than 10 artworks from five countries are on display, all of which have made breakthroughs in lighting and artistic effect compared to the last two exhibitions.

1.26

The 1.26, created by American artist Janet Echelman, comes to Shanghai after touring in New York, Seattle and Amsterdam.

The artwork was inspired by the scientific data of the great Chilean earthquake and tsunami that occurred in 2010 – the vibration generated by the earthquake increased earth's rotational velocity by 1.26 microsecond in a single moment.

Echelman studio thus made a 3-D sculpture model out of the earthquake and tsunami with larger than life appearance presented in a floating way.

The artwork can dance with wind under colorful lights, radiating like polar lights, guiding the visitors to think about the relationships between human beings and nature.
