The Shanghai Concord Cancer Hospital, Shanghai's first Chinese-foreign joint venture hospital of that kind, officially announced its arrival in Shanghai New Hongqiao International Medical Center, a major medical integrated area in the Hongqiao Central Business District on Oct 31.

The new hospital will be co-developed by Concord Medical Services Holdings and MD Anderson Cancer Center, both notable in the fight against cancer. The MD Anderson center, one of the world's largest cancer treatment institutes, has been one of the top two such hospitals in the US since the 1990s.

A high-level specialized hospital, Shanghai Concord Cancer Hospital has overall investment exceeding 2 billion yuan ($302 million). Covering an area of 160,000 square meters, it will have 400 beds, 17 operating rooms and 34 intensive care units as well as other types of therapy rooms. It is expected to open for trial operations by the end of 2019.

Upon completion, the new hospital will manifest MD Anderson's patient-oriented philosophy and treatment model, as well as cooperate with MD Anderson in vocational training and scientific research.
