Shanghai China Calligraphy Institute settles in Hongqiao
People in the Hongqiao Central Business District can now enjoy works of the calligraphy masters without traveling far, as the Shanghai China Calligraphy Institute has announced it will establish itself within the district.
On June 6, a contract-signing ceremony was held. The establishment of the Calligraphy Institute is a part of the district’s efforts to no longer just be a business district, but instead be an area with perfect cultural facilities and humanistic elements.
Founded by Shanghai Calligraphers Association and Shanghai Promotion Association for Cultural Artworks Appreciation, the institute aims to research, preserve and promote the art of Chinese calligraphy. The institute also aims to enhance communication among calligraphers from both local cities and other countries to improve Shanghai’s calligraphy level by conducting research, holding calligraphy exhibitions and trainings and by serving as a platform for both calligraphers and calligraphy-lovers to write, study, train, exchange and promote calligraphy.
According to Zhou Zhigao, the president of the institute, the SCCI will hold a string of high-level exhibitions and academic activities to better preserve and transmit Chinese traditional culture as well as promote the achievements of calligraphy masters.

Su Shishu, the chairman of the Shanghai Calligraphers Association, and Zhou Huijun, the honorary chairman of the Shanghai Calligraphers Association, will be honorary chairmen of the Shanghai China Calligraphy Institute
Zhou Zhigao, the chairman of Shanghai Calligraphers Association, will be the president of the Shanghai China Calligraphy Institute
Zhang Yaowei, the executive vice president of Shanghai Promotion Association for Cultural Artworks Appreciation, will be appointed as the executive vice president of the Shanghai China Calligraphy Institute
