Jiangqiao to boost innovative sector

An expanded area of the Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District (CBD) is all set to be established in Jiangqiao town, Jiading district, local media reported.

The construction of the expanded area, called the North Hongqiao CBD, will contribute to developing Shanghai into a global science and technology innovation center.

Jiangqiao has been making considerable efforts to facilitate the establishment of the CBD. It enhances its headquarters economy and forms industrial clusters featuring cultural information, e-commerce, financial service and intelligent industry.

The local government also plans to build a number of start-up incubators within the next three years. It also plans to bring in companies like Dalian-based Yida Group, which have rich experience of running commercial areas.

In addition, the government will offer support to the high-tech start-ups and the incubators through its cooperation with universities and favorable policies such as financial support.

In order to create desirable environment for both living and working, Jiangqiao will also accelerate the construction of a high-end residential area, covering over 2,600 mu (173 hectares). The area will be equipped with modern infrastructures including a school, a neighborhood center, an art gallery and a metro station.
