In the transformation of Balitun community, Nanming district has integrated Bouyei ethnic culture into its urban village vitalization project, allowing residents to enjoy modern conveniences while fostering a deep sense of cultural identity and belonging.
The project involves 268 households, over 90 percent of which consist of Bouyei villagers.
As part of the renovation efforts, Nanming has incorporated cultural preservation and promotion, focusing on four themes –"Blessing," "Joy," "Happiness," and "Beauty" – depicted through murals spanning approximately 110 square meters. These artworks celebrate the vibrant lives of contemporary Bouyei communities.
The "Blessing" mural showcases the joyful celebrations of Bouyei festivals, such as the Bouyei New Year and the Liuyueliu Festival, highlighting their hardworking and wise way of life.

The "Happiness" mural captures the essence of Bouyei music, including iconic instruments like the bronze drum, symbolizing their cheerful spirits and shared values.
The "Beauty" mural depicts the integration of Bouyei life into China's modern era, showcasing scenes such as traditional long-table banquets and landmarks like Guiyang North Railway Station, emphasizing unity, harmony, and a brighter future for all.
This project demonstrates how cultural heritage can be seamlessly integrated into urban development, enriching community life while celebrating ethnic diversity.
