This year, Nanming district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has implemented innovative models and explored new mechanisms to address the diverse and multifaceted healthcare needs of its residents.
Focusing on high-quality development, the district's three public hospitals have leveraged their unique strengths.
Nanming District People's Hospital is advancing its expansion project to elevate its status to a tertiary hospital. Nanming District Maternal and Child Health Hospital is integrating traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with obstetrics and pediatrics, and became the first hospital in Guizhou to sign with the China Maternal and Child Health Association's medical-sports yoga program.
Meanwhile, Nanming District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital is enhancing TCM innovation and development through specialized departments and the establishment of the district's TCM technology promotion center, driving the integration of TCM into the broader healthcare industry.
These three hospitals have seen a combined increase of 14.83 percent in total number of beds compared to 2023.
Nanming has also fostered collaborative healthcare networks. The district's public hospitals have partnered with over 10 tertiary hospitals and universities, including Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital, to cooperate in talent development, discipline building, and research innovation.
Additionally, the district has advanced the hierarchical medical system, forming a "city-level tertiary hospital (headquarters) – district-level secondary hospital (branch) – community health center" model. Public hospitals have taken on management roles for local health centers, creating integrated county-level medical communities.
To enhance grassroots healthcare, the district has established two new community health service centers and relocated one for upgrades. Each center now focuses on developing at least one specialized department, ensuring balanced, distinctive and accessible healthcare services for all residents.
