The box office revenue of nine cinemas in the Nanming district of Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – broke a record during the Spring Festival holiday, taking in 11.61 million yuan ($1.74 million), with a total of 255,000 people seeing films.

Statistics from the local authorities showed that during the seven-day break from Jan 31 to Feb 6, Nanming's box office revenues ranked second among the district and county-level cities administered by Guiyang, while its number of viewers ranked first.

The box office revenue of Nanming's Hongtongcheng cinema ranked first in Guiyang for six consecutive days from Feb 1 to 6, while the district's Zhongying Nanfang cinema on Feb 6 ranked second in Guiyang.

During the holidays, cinemas in Nanming district rolled out a series of drives and initiatives to boost movie viewers.

They included providing free or discount movie tickets and extending cinema operating hours, among others.

Meanwhile, cinemas took strong virus prevention and control measures to safeguard the health of audiences.

From purchasing tickets to watching movies, each cinema in Nanming's jurisdiction implemented health code and itinerary code inspections, body temperature measurements and disinfection.

Meanwhile, all cinemas were required to strictly implement real-name online ticket reservations and limit the number of viewers for each movie. The occupancy rate was set at a 75 percent maximum for audiences.
