The economy of Nanming district in Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – reportedly experienced solid growth in the first half of 2021, despite the lingering impact of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Statistics showed that from January to June, Nanming's GDP reached 41 billion yuan ($6.15 billion), an increase of 10.5 percent year-on-year.
The economic volume of Nanming accounted for 20.1 percent of Guiyang city's total GDP, a level that was 0.6 percentage points higher than the first quarter.
The added value of the district's primary industry was 51 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.9 percent, while the added value of the secondary industry reached 13.71 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.2 percent. Meanwhile, the added value of the tertiary industry during the first half was 27.24 billion yuan, up 10.1 percent.
The contribution rates of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries to total economic growth were 0.1 percent, 33.4 percent and 66.5 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, the added value of industrial enterprises above a designated size – those with annual sales of 20 million yuan or more – increased by 20.2 percent year-on-year.
The added value of the manufacturing industry above a designated size increased by 22.8 percent year-on-year, and the added value of the production and supply industries for electricity, heat, gas and water above a designated size increased by 15.5 percent year-on-year, both maintaining double-digit growth.
Among the 17 major industrial sectors above a designated size in the district, the production of 11 major sectors showed rapid growth compared with the same period last year.
The growth rates of the electronics equipment manufacturing industries and the water production and supply industries increased by 158.8 percent and 152.7 percent, respectively, compared with the same period last year.
The gas supply sector – as well as the tobacco products, food manufacturing and petroleum processing sectors – all showed double-digit growth.
Meanwhile, the consumer market in Nanming remained stable, with spending gradually improving.
In the first half of the year, the total retail sales of consumer goods in the district came in at 31.50 billion yuan, an increase of 19.4 percent year-on-year.
Of that, sales in the wholesale industry totaled 85.82 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 21.2 percent. Sales in the retail industry came at 15.08 billion yuan, up 11.7 percent, and sales in the accommodation industry reached 714 million yuan, a gain of 29.7 percent.
Elsewhere, the service industry above a designated size reportedly recovered steadily, while emerging industries showed growth trends.
From January to May, the seven key sectors of the service industry above a designated size in Nanming generated operating income of 2.92 billion yuan. They accounted for 32.1 percent of the total service industry above a designated size in the district and 15.9 percent of the city's key industry operating income, a year-on-year increase of 31.3 percent.
During the same period, the operating income of the internet and related services, as well as the software and information technology service industries above a designated size, was 1.10 billion yuan, a 26.6 percent rise.
Additionally, in the first half, 24,845 jobs were created in Nanming, an increase of 12,550 over the first quarter. The per capita disposable income of urban residents in the district was 23,017 yuan, an increase of 11.4 percent year-on-year.
Nanming's total tourism revenue came at 18.74 billion yuan in the six months, a year-on-year increase of 31.9 percent.
The total number of tourists coming to the district during the period was 11.76 million, a year-on-year improvement of 77.6 percent and an increase of 129.7 percentage points on the same period last year.
