The Nanming district of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is continuing its moves of recent years to expand its eldercare service system and has included senior citizens service institutions in its economic and social development plan.

At present, the district has one public elderly care institution, 14 social elderly care service organizations, three rural service centers for seniors and 11 community day care centers, with a total of 1,785 beds.

To establish district-level elderly care guidance centers, Nanming brought in specialist Jilin Xingfuli Elderly Care Co and invested nearly 47 million yuan ($7.24 million) to renovate apartments for the elderly with a total construction area of about 10,615 square meters, as well as working on 317 standard-room apartments.

Relying on the construction of apartments for seniors, it will build a district-level elderly care guidance center which is expected to be put into operation in March this year.

Nanming has set reasonable entry thresholds for private elderly care institutions, simplified related admission procedures, implemented various support and preferential policies and encouraged and supported social forces to participate in the establishment of elderly care institutions.

The Youzha Community Wanxia Caidai Daycare Center is a provincial home care service demonstration facility established by Guizhou Provincial Department of Civil Affairs. It was jointly constructed by Nanming district government and Guigang Staff Hospital in Guiyang city.

The daycare center adopts a combined operational approach involving home, community care and medical services. It provides daycare, full care and home care services for the elderly including daily living care, rehabilitation physiotherapy, culture and entertainment.
