Some 70 businesses, that won recognition as national high-tech enterprises for the first time in 2019, were handed a total of 14 million yuan ($2.09 million) in special subsidies on Sept 25 at a conference held in Nanming district in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.
The subsidies were to support and help them to carry out further scientific and technological research and development activities.
In order to enable businesses to fully understand the relevant policies, the district also invited an expert to talk about policies for identifying high-tech companies and research and development fees.
The expert held discussions with company representatives, answered questions and resolved their doubts.
He helped them gain a better grasp of the incentives available to national high-tech enterprises.
In recent years, the district has publicized relevant policies, application conditions and procedures for the identification of high-tech businesses.
It has responded to the current conditions of each enterprise.
The district has improved its guidance, encouraging traditional businesses to join a high-tech enterprise list through independent innovation, transformation and upgrades.
At the same time, the district vigorously developed the construction of innovation carriers -- such as maker spaces and incubators -- enabling them to become cradles for the incubation and growth of science and technology enterprises.
It has also actively promoted the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements.
The district has reported that there are more than 640 science and technology enterprises in Nanming district and 173 have been identified as high-tech enterprises -- accounting for more than 10 percent of the total number of high-tech businesses in the province.
The categories for existing high-tech enterprises cover the development and application of products and new technologies in the fields of information, electronics, bioengineering, new materials and new energy.
In 2019, the gross output value of high-tech enterprises in Nanming district was about 20 billion yuan, which added a strong impetus to the high-quality economic and social development of the district.
