Nanming district library in Guiyang -- capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- held an activity on using traditional crafts to make handbags on Sept 5, aiming to celebrate Teachers' Day, according to local media reports.
China's Teachers' Day has been celebrated on Sept 10 every year since 1985. In order to prepare gifts to show they appreciate their teachers, over 20 students and readers at the library participated.
During the event, a traditional crafts teacher taught them the skills of applique embroidery, so they could embroider and weave the handbags.
The library has held various large-scale activities this year. It also holds various cultural and recreational activities every week and conducts online activities through its WeChat service account.
These expose participants to some unfamiliar cultural areas, giving them the opportunity to broaden their minds.
In October, the library has scheduled a series of patriotic education-themed activities for its members.
In future, plans are for it to continue to hold various high-quality activities to attract more people to come to the library.
Through them, people will get to know more about local folk art, classical culture and read high-quality books – allowing them to enjoy a more colorful, spiritual and cultural life, library officials said.
