Nanming district in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has beautified and upgraded five viaducts and seven pedestrian footbridges under its jurisdiction -- further improving its general appearance, according to local media reports on Aug 26.
Officials said the district started the project on July 26 and completed the task on schedule.
District officials said that the viaducts and pedestrian footbridges that were transformed are all located in the central section of Guiyang, providing important traffic nodes for many main roads in Nanming.
Officials said the work involved an area covering 140,590 square meters.
They said work began after the district drew up detailed plans for painting bridge decks, bridge bottoms and other areas.
Other work involved removing damaged and incomplete rainwater downpipes and replacing them with stainless steel rain pipes; removing and updating existing flower hanging baskets and replanting flowers and vines.
Unsightly exposed cables on the side of the bridge were placed in wire casings and damaged lamps and other lighting was repaired or replaced.
