Since the beginning of this year, Nanming district in Guiyang -- capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- has upped the contribution in its battle to eliminate poverty, according to local officials.

During the period, the district allocated 9.4 million yuan ($1.36 million) of special assistance funds to help five partner-assistance areas fight poverty and contribute to removing poverty entirely from the whole province, according to local media reports on Aug 24.

District officials said that to help Puan county, Guyang town in Changshun county and Longping town in Luodian county remove the blight, the district allocated respective amounts of 2 million yuan, 2 million yuan and 1.4 million yuan for industrial projects, medical assistance and other outstanding problems in those areas.

In terms of boosting initiatives in Shitun town in Wangmo County, the district has helped the town to develop its industries.

It's also moved to ensure rural poor have no worries about food and clothing and have access to compulsory education, basic medical services and safe housing by implementing funding assistance worth 3 million yuan.

Officials said that since last year, with the help of Nanming district, all the poor people in Xiuwen county have been lifted out of the poverty. This year, in a bid to consolidate its assistance to the county, Nanming has implemented a total of 1 million yuan in financial assistance for the construction of a drinking water fountain at Liutong middle school in Liutong town in the county and other projects under preparation.

In addition, to tackle poverty through education, the district has encouraged schools in impoverished areas to carry out teaching via mobile apps during the COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control period.

Through online remote consultation and training, donating medical equipment to local hospitals and organizing free clinic activities, the district has conducted medical assistance work in those areas.

At the same time, the district has opened online job fairs, established training institutions and other initiatives to help the poor people escape poverty through employment.

In addition, the district has helped localities to contact and open up sales channels, to help poor counties to surmount the problems posed by less salable agricultural products and promote poverty alleviation through industries.
