From the beginning of this year to the end of April, Nanming district in Guiyang -- capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- carried out three medical assistance activities to its counterpart-assistance poverty-stricken counties, according to local officials.
It received 300 local people for consultation and presented about 60,000 yuan ($8,407.95) worth of medical materials, the officials told local media on May 20.
They said that since the implementation of the "medical assistance project", Nanming district has carried out 20 free clinics for poverty alleviation through healthcare and received 3,065 consultation and medical visits from people in need.
The district has also donated more than 1.5 million yuan in poverty alleviation funds and medical and health equipment to hospitals at its five counterpart-assistance poverty-stricken counties.
According to local officials, since the district started to help these counties, it has fully integrated the high-quality medical and health resources of the district.
It has also given major assistance to the construction of township hospitals in these areas and further promoted the development of health services there through various forms of activities and training of medical staff, so that the local residents can enjoy better medical and technical services that are nearby.
