Nanming district of Guiyang -- the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- received a total of 276,500 tourists during the May Day holiday, according to the district's bureau of culture and tourism.
From May 1 to May 5, the visitors contributed an estimated 453 million yuan ($63.78 million) to tourism revenue, the bureau said on May 6.
Affected by the novel coronavirus epidemic, this year's tourism consumption has been dominated by local tourism -- and the various simple things people can do, such as leisure activities and appreciating flowers -- as well as more peripheral tourism that takes place within four days.
This year, in face of the potential epidemic situation, all the tourist attractions in the district put together emergency plans in advance -- making sure they were stocked with masks, hand sanitizers, disinfectant, alcohol and other items for disinfection.
At the same time, all open public areas and office areas were cleaned, disinfected and inspected for safety. Toilets also needed to be cleaned and disinfected regularly.
In addition, checkpoints were set up at the entrances of each scenic spot.
Now, after showing their "Guizhou health code" and taking the temperature measurements for safety, tourists can enter each attraction according to the real-time number of tourists in the scenic spot.
