The launch ceremony for Guizhou province's spring tea contest was held at Jiaxiu Square in Nanming district of Guiyang, the capital city of the province in China's Southwest on April 18, local officials said.

They said the launch attracted dozens of tea enterprises, whose representatives took their newly produced spring tea with them to provide an on-site exhibition and free tastings, while many tea-making masters showed off their skills.

According to local media reports, after the start of the preliminary contests in the province in early April, as of April 16, the contest organizing committee had received a total of 133 tea samples.

After evaluations according to the national standards, 35 of the top entrants were selected and entered the final selection.

On April 18-19, a tea tasting activity was held in Jiaxiu Square. A total of 41 tea firms from the province brought the newly produced spring tea for tea tasting, exhibition and sale -- which also showcased the world's only million-year old fossil tea seeds to the public.

At the same time, a number of famous tea processing masters and young tea making experts demonstrated their traditional skills.

In addition, 45 top tea picking workers were chosen to participate in the provincial final at a tea farm in Qingzhen city in Guiyang on April 26.

The overall awards ceremony for 2020 Guizhou spring tea contest will also be held on the same day.

According to local media reports, the spring tea contest event is also staging a series of activities, such as online promotion activities, an awards ceremony and auction for gold medal tea and tea tasting activities.
