A delegation of officials from Nanming district in Guiyang -- capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- on March 20 went to Pu'an county in the province and donated 2 million yuan ($282,600) to help its fight against poverty, local officials said.
During the visit, Nanming district also signed four agreements to lift people out of poverty in the county -- in such areas as employment, education and medical treatment.
According to Nanming officials, Pu'an needs to achieve its goal of lifting itself out of poverty by the end of June this year.
To do so, the district will continue to give full play to its advantages in such areas as employment, health care, education and social resources.
At the same time, officials added that, it is also hoped that the two sides can establish a cooperative mechanism of complementary advantages and coordinated development.
Since 2019, Nanming district has closely focused on four major areas of the market, employment, industry, education and medical care -- and adopted relevant measures to lift 5,000 people in Pu'an county out of poverty.
Officials said that to date, 44 villages in the county had successfully been lifted out of poverty, with a total of 17,766 households and 77,866 people -- with the remaining 1,714 households with 4,703 people still languishing in poverty.
But officials said the incidence of poverty in the county has now dropped to 1.5 percent.
On March 3, as announced by the provincial government, Pu'an successfully withdrew itself from the list of poor counties.
Next, Nanming district plans to make further efforts to consolidate on those successfully efforts, officials added.
