200 dustbins installed for collecting used face masks

Updated: 2020-01-31

With the aim of strengthening the prevention and control of the pneumonia caused by the coronavirus, Nanming district in Guiyang -- capital city of southwestern Guizhou province -- installed 200 dustbins for collecting used face masks in various public places, according to local media reports on Jan 30.

Nanming district also dispatched personnel to regularly transport the collected wasted masks to Guiyang waste center for disposal or incineration.

Officials said the move was to prevent secondary pollution caused by improper disposal of masks and traders illegally recycling discarded masks.

In addition, the district's townships and street offices -- as well as property management companies, community self-management associations, enterprises and institutions and shopping malls -- all actively guided and advised locals to place used masks in dustbins.

The information campaign was driven by leaflets, broadcasts, LED screens and other methods.
