Nanming Red Cross Society launches 2020 charity activities

A ceremony for issuing charity supplies was held at the Red Cross Society center of Nanming district in Guiyang, capital city of southwestern Guizhou province on Jan 8, marking the start of the society's charity work in 2020.

On the day, the Red Cross Society of Nanming district distributed 4,950 kilograms rice and 1,500 liters of edible oil, worth more than 30,000 yuan ($4319.84), to 21 townships and communities in the district.

According to society officials, Red Cross volunteers will hand out the supplies in a timely manner to about 990 people from special poverty-stricken groups.

These include the disabled, empty nest elderlies, lonely elderlies, bereaved families, poverty-stricken families and the left behind children.

Officials said the Red Cross Society of Nanming district has been carrying out a series of such activities for more than 10 years and has consoled and assisted nearly 10,000 people in need.

Officials said in the future, the Red Cross Society would continue to play an active role, pay close attention to vulnerable groups, as well as help the district to ensure and improve people's lives.
