A launch ceremony for a shopping season was held in the Nanming district of Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province on Dec 20, according to local officials.

They said this year's shopping season will run to the end of February, 2020.

It aims to boost the local consumer markets and further stimulating spending by locals.

The season also aims to tap new consumer potential, create new shopping hot spots and promoting sustainable and stable growth in spending.

According to local media reports, a series of activities plans to integrate with activities held by six urban commercial complexes in Nanming district.

The main commercial complexes and online platforms plan to issue 3,000 large preferential packages successively with a total value of over 1 million yuan ($142,600).

Officials said the purpose of the initiative is to create a "consumption event" through joint cooperation between commercial enterprises and cultural and tourism enterprises. They hope it will help stimulate spending by consumers.

The preferential packages for locals mainly includes free coupons, vouchers, experience quotas and other subsidies -- to be used in shopping malls, department stores, hotels, travel agencies and in other activities related to culture and innovation, entertainment and the internet, radio and television networks.

The packages are being issued in two rounds: the first round at the launch ceremony involving six major commercial complexes in the district.

Plans are to launch a second round for online sending at the start of January 2020, running to the end of February 2020.
