The People's Daily online platform people.com published research findings of the 2019 China small and medium-sized cities scientific development evaluation index system on Oct 8.
Nanming district in Guiyang, capital of southwestern Guizhou province, was selected as one of top 100 districts in terms of comprehensive strength and investment potential for the sixth consecutive year.
According to the research findings, Nanming district ranked 84th among the top 100 districts with comprehensive strength.
It also ranked 52nd among the top 100 districts with investment potential, 83rd among the top 100 districts with ecological development and 88th among the top 100 districts for scientific and technological innovation.
In 2018, the GDP of Nanming district reached 80.04 billion yuan ($11.38 billion), an increase of 11.2 percent year-on-year, accounting for 21.1 percent of Guiyang's GDP.
The growth rate of Nanming's GDP was 2.1 percentage points higher than that of Guizhou province and 1.3 percentage points higher than that of Guiyang city.
In 2018, the district rolled out 12.38 billion yuan in extra-provincial funding -- adding 126 new industrial projects.
According to statistics, the direct use of foreign capital last year was $171.36 million, ranking second in Guiyang city.
In 2018, the energy consumption of industrial added value above a designated size in the district dropped by an average of 4.36 percent, while the comprehensive utilization rate and disposal utilization rate of industrial solid waste moved above 97 percent.
Last year the district's compliance rate for surface water environmental quality reached 100 percent, and the quality of centralized drinking water source standards rate was 100 percent.
Official said the excellent rate of urban ambient air quality reached 97.5 percent, an increase of 3.3 percentage points year-on-year. They said 52,000 square meters of green space was added throughout the year, five community parks were built and the total number of parks in the district reached 154.
In 2018, 71 new high-tech enterprises were added in the district, accounting for 11 percent of the total number of new enterprises in the whole province.
The added value of high-tech industry in the district reached 470 million yuan in 2018, an increase of 6 percent over the previous year.
Meanwhile, the comprehensive scientific and technological progress index for the whole district is 98.5 percent, ranking second in the province.
