The Fairy Cave is a Taoist temple sitting on the mountain (also known as Tonggu Mountain, one of the eight scenic spots of Guiyang in the Ming Dynasty) between Xianrendong (Fairy Cave) Road (formerly known as Xianfeng Road) and Shuikousi Road in Guiyang City. It is a historical and cultural site that enjoys municipal protection. Local chronicles show that the Fairy Cave was where Zhuge Liang hid bronze drums during the southern expedition so it is also called the Bronze Drum Cave.

Due to good ventilation, a buzzing sound can be heard at the entrance of the cave, which is described as the sound of the bronze drums of folklore.

The site is composed of three caves. The Fairy Light Cave is on the top of the mountain; Fairy Cave is on the mountainside. There is also an Eight Immortals Cave that enshrines representations of eight immortals who, legend has it, were playing chess in the cave when a boulder spirit started to fight with a giant turtle in the Nanming River at the foot of the mountain. 

After Lyu Dongbin, one of the immortals, threw a chess piece, the giant turtle escaped and the boulder quaked and took the shape of a boat that is now known as the "Boat Stone". Lying near the Nanming River next to Shuikou Temple Primary School, the Boat Stone is a boat-shaped natural boulder, high above the water, and part of the scene under the Fairy Cave.
