Maoming ranked ninth among the 336 prefecture-level cities on the Chinese mainland, becoming one of China's top 10 comfortable cities, according to a report issued on Sept 29.
The report was prepared by Chinese internet company Sohu, Shanghai Qingyue, the Shanghai Spatial Planning and Design Institute, and the spatial planning research center at Fudan University.
Four individual indexes, namely air freshness, water quality, greening, and appropriate altitude, were used to evaluate the cities.

In the past five years, Maoming has harvested 128.48 hectares of new forest belts around the city, 114.47 hectares of forests around the city and 121.54 kilometers of greenways in urban and rural residential sites, and completed construction of 658 rural greening and beautifying demonstration sites.
By the end of 2020, Maoming's urban green coverage rate was 42.34 percent, the road greening rate was 98.35 percent, and the per capita park green area was 16.26 square meters.
Since 2016, Maoming's air quality index has ranked in the top four among Guangdong's prefecture-level 21 cities.
