The Yunfu-Maoming Expressway, which starts at Weidi town in Yunfu and ends at Hehua town in Maoming, was formally opened to traffic on June 11.

To the east, the expressway connects the cities of the Pearl River Delta region with the expressway network in Guangdong province. To the west, it stretches to the Beibu Gulf city cluster through the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region's road network. It also makes up for the lack of an expressway in the eastern mountainous areas of Xinyi, a county-level city in Maoming.

Construction of the expressway started at the end of 2016. It is a standard four-lane expressway, with a total length of 129.7 kilometers and a designated top speed of 100 km per hour.

The travel time between the mountainous areas in western Guangdong and the Beibu Gulf city cluster has been reduced by one hour. The journey from Xinyi to Luoding, a county-level city in Yunfu, has also been shortened by one hour.
