The departure ceremony for Guangdong lychee exports and the launching ceremony of cross-border e-commerce were held in Maoming on May 10.

The city has made a breakthrough in cross-border e-commerce exports, greatly expanding lychee sales channels and promoting Maoming lychees.

A total of 100 metric tons of Guangdong lychees worth more than 3 million yuan ($467,768.6) were delivered to Canada by air or ship on the same day.

According to Lin Bo, person in charge at Maoming Zefengyuan Agricultural Products Co, the selling price of lychees exported through the cross-border e-commerce models has quadrupled compared with traditional trade exports.

In addition, cross-border e-commerce exports are mainly by air, meaning fast delivery time. When coupled with a one-stop cold-chain transport logistics system, foreign consumers are able to enjoy the fresh, high-quality lychees much faster than they otherwise would be able to, added Lin.

Cross-border e-commerce in Maoming is mainly divided into two models – B2B (business-to-business) and B2C (business-to-customer), said Dai Yaowu, secretary general of the Maoming Electronic Commerce Association.

"Maoming mainly promotes the B2B model, which focuses on bulk trade, to improve sales of lychees, while the B2C model can produce value-added profits on the retail end," said Dai. "Therefore, whether in B2B or B2C mode, Maoming's cross-border e-commerce export of lychees can bring more profits to local people."

In addition, Maoming will further strengthen policy guidance and offer more technical support to promote the sale of lychee products, expand the Maoming lychee brand and embark on an export-heavy development path with distinctive characteristics, so that people all over the world can taste the delicious Maoming lychee, according to the relevant person in charge of the city's bureau of agriculture and rural affairs.
