Lipuzi village in Shayuan town, Maoming, boasts an appealing environment and has attracted a number of visitors for leisure and sightseeing.

"The whole village seems to have been built in a park... it's beautiful and comfortable," said a tourist from outside Maoming.

The village began to improve its living environment as early as 2007, and has since been building itself into a "Beautiful Village".

More than 40 million yuan ($6.13 million), of which over 30 million yuan was donated by villagers, has been invested in environmental improvements over the years, said Xie Yinghan, head of Lipuzi village and chairman of the village's council for the improvement of human settlements.

All the village roads have been hardened, while street lamps, floodlit courts, public toilets and four leisure parks have been built there.

The village has won honorary titles such as "Famous Village in Guangdong Province" and one of the "Top 10 Beautiful Villages in Maoming".
