Two towns and one agricultural industrial park in Maoming have been included on the national list of agricultural industry integrated development projects in 2021, according to a notice published by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on April 2.

The Huazhou Modern Agricultural Industrial Park made the "creation list" for national modern agricultural industrial parks in 2021, while Qianpai and Shalang towns were included on the creation list for strong agricultural towns.

The Huazhou Modern Agricultural Industrial Park's main industry is "exocarpium" pomelos. Huazhou, a county-level city in Maoming, boasts a planting history of this species of more than 2,000 years, and is the only such planting base in the world.

To date, the pomelo planting area in Huazhou exceeds 100,000 mu (6,666.67 hectares), with a yearly output of fresh fruit of 50,000 metric tons. Its processing and sales output value reaches over 3 billion yuan ($458.48 million), bringing direct profits of more than 500 million yuan to farmers.

Rice, corn, sweet potatoes, vegetables, and Sanhua plums are the main agricultural products in Qianpai town in Xinyi, a county-level city in Maoming.

Known as the "No 1 town for Sanhua plums", the town is a production base for Sanhua plums and has the largest plantation area and the biggest yield of these fruit in Guangdong province.

Shalang town in Dianbai district has been breeding tortoises since the 1980s. It has formed a complete industrial chain for the tortoise breeding industry. Traditional Chinese Medicine processing is another pillar industry of the town.
