The signing ceremony for an industry-university-research cooperation project between Maoming Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone and Liaoning Shihua University (LSHU) was held on Jan 19.

The opening ceremony of a technology institute jointly created by LSHU and Maoming Hi-tech Industry Development Zone was also held the same day.

The cooperation project will see the construction of a high-quality research and development (R&D) platform, speed up the process of turning scientific and technological achievements into practical applications, and realize mutual benefits and common development between the university and enterprises in Maoming.

It will center on R&D in the fields of petrochemical engineering, new materials like polyolefin, fine chemical engineering, petrochemical safety, petrochemical energy conservation and environment protection, process instruments and control, oil and gas storage and transportation, hydrogen vehicles, and fuel cells.

According to Li Duomin, secretary of the Party working committee of Maoming Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, LSHU and the Maoming Hi-Tech Zone share the same petrochemical background, and "it is necessary to strengthen the deep cooperation and give full play to the advantages of both sides in hardware".
