With a total investment of 4.17 billion yuan ($637 million), the railway is 49.9 kilometers in length, while the connecting line is 1.88 km long.

Five cargo lines have been planned to be built to connect the Maoming East Cargo Yard of the Guangzhou Freight Center and the Bohe New Harbor in the near future, as well as five other cargo lines in the long term.

Construction of the railway started in November 2019, and is expected to be completed within two years.

After completion, it will connect the Bohe New Harbor into the city's railway network, creating important sea-land transport capacity for bulk goods.

It can also enhance the competitiveness of Maoming Port, speed up the city's integration into the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as create a new growth driver in the city's coastal economic belt.
