Maoming tops province in air quality in Jan-Sept

The urban area of Maoming, South China's Guangdong province had a 99.6 percent rate of days with excellent or good air quality in the first nine months of 2020, a year-on-year increase of 4.4 percent and ranking first in the province, according to the city's bureau of ecology and environment.

The composite index of ambient air quality of downtown Maoming in the first nine months of the year was 2.38, ranking second in the province.

From January to September, the mean value of the city's PM10 and PM2.5 concentration levels saw a year-on-year decrease of 10.8 percent and 15 percent. The concentration levels of nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, and O3-8h decreased by 16.7 percent, 18.2 percent, and 18.9 percent respectively compared to the same period of the previous year, while that of sulfur dioxide was the same as that in 2019.

Maoming has taken many measures to protect its ecological environment, including treatment for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), controlling dust pollution at building construction sites, prohibiting open air burning, and strengthening supervision over fireworks.

By Oct 11, the city has finished the renovation and treatment for VOCs at 118 enterprises.
