China held a meeting on Sept 8 in Beijing to commend role models in the country's fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic.

Ye Xiufeng, a former member of the villagers' committee of Wangfu village in Maoming's Dianbai district, was commended as an outstanding individual for his role in the COVID-19 fight.

Ye was on the front line of the country's epidemic control and prevention work, publicizing anti-coronavirus measures in the five villages under the jurisdiction of Wangfu village, as well as accurately surveying and registering people returning from the areas hit hard by the COVID-19 epidemic.

He took body temperature measurements twice daily for people returning from epidemic-stricken areas, with help from medical staff.

Ye also took the initiative to monitor the village's crowded farmers' market.

For more than 30 days after the coronavirus outbreak, Ye was overloaded with anti-epidemic work. He died of a heart attack while promoting epidemic prevention and control measures and inspecting the village's water sources and irrigation facilities.
