Participants from Maoming claimed five first-place prizes at the 2020 Guangdong Provincial Marine Model Championship, along with two second-place and one third-place finishes.

The championship was jointly hosted by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Sports, the Guangdong Social Sports Center, and the Maoming bureau of culture, radio, film, television, tourism and sports. It has been carried out in Maoming for three consecutive years since 2018.

This year's competition was held from July 31 to Aug 2. It was divided into the four groups of simulation models, endurance, motor boats, and sailboats, consisting of 27 events and more than 200 competitors.

The marine model championship is one of the official medal events of the Guangdong Provincial Games, which has been held every four years since 1956.

The 17th Guangdong Provincial Games, which is scheduled to be carried out in 2026, will also be hosted in Maoming.
