Maoming releases employment figures for Jan-April

New employment in Maoming from January to April rose by 13,596, down by 15.2 percent year-on-year, according to data from the city's bureau of human resources and social security.

There were 4,952 unemployed people in Maoming's urban areas that were reemployed from January to April, a year-on-year increase of 2.8 percent. A total of 1,117 people in the city started their own businesses in the first four months of this year, creating 2,059 new jobs. The city's registered urban unemployment rate reached 2.44 percent.

Various measures had been carried out by the city's bureau of human resources and social security to help its enterprises resume work and production after the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, as well as stabilize employment.

Eight supportive policies for employment and entrepreneurship have been launched in Maoming. To date, the city has distributed a total subsidy of 311,000 yuan ($43,760) for enterprises' chartered buses, the job introduction subsidy of 26,800 yuan for 67 people, the employment subsidy of 429,000 yuan for 429 people in enterprises producing and distributing anti-COVID-19 virus supplies, as well as the subsidy of 13,000 yuan for 26 people employed in Maoming for the first time.

The city also arranged 33 chartered buses to transport 683 workers from Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan, and Sichuan provinces, as well as Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region back to their jobs in Maoming.

With the help of China Mobile, Maoming has been releasing information on employment policies and enterprise recruitment, guiding migrant workers to find jobs nearby.

The city has held a total of 112 online job fairs since Feb 2, with 1,173 enterprises taking part in them and providing more than 35,000 jobs. More than 460,000 people visited the online job fairs and over 20,000 resumes were received.

In addition, the city exempted or reduced 380 million yuan in social insurance for its 15,116 enterprises from February to April, and distributed a total of 23.82 million yuan in unemployment insurance refunds to 418 enterprises, benefiting 76,346 employees.

Maoming also sent more than 300 technical college students to key enterprise posts, as well as COVID-19 epidemic prevention and protection positions. It also arranged over 4,300 technical college students working as interns in key enterprises in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, helping them resume production.
