Maoming City Museum, covering a land area of 8,352 square meters and a floor area of 5,690 square meters, is a comprehensive prefectural-level museum.

Since 2009, it has been recognized as a National Level-III Museum, a Maoming City Patriotism Education Base, a Guangdong Provincial Communist Party of China Education Center, and a Reform Tradition Education Center of the Guangdong Corps of the Chinese People's Armed Police Force. In 2015 it was given the “Most Improved Award” by the Guangdong Provincial Best Open Service Museum.

It now hosts three permanent exhibitions, including the Maoming City Museum Collection Exhibition, the Maoming Fork Custom Exhibition, and the Maoming Reform History Exhibition, as well as four outdoor exhibitions, namely the  Maoming Stone Mill Exhibition, Ancient Sugar Refinery Exhibition, Ancient Oil Extract Exhibition, and Hitching Post and Mounting Stone Exhibition.

The ground and second floors are used for ad hoc exhibitions on paintings, calligraphy, photography, and science. It is an important venue for visitors to understand the local history and culture, and for hosting educational programs on patriotism and reform traditions.
