Spanish professors explore Xunpu
On the morning of March 28, Professor Rosa Cervera, former dean of the School of Architecture at the University of Alcalá, led a group on a visit to Xunpu village in Fengze district, Quanzhou, East China's Fujian province, where they experienced the local customs and cultural charm.
The professors explored the unique local architecture, including the renowned Xunpu Oyster Shell Houses and Shunji Temple, and gained insights into the village's history and traditional clothing.
Captivated by the Oyster Shell Houses and the colorful floral headdress known as zanhua, or zanhuawei, the professors expressed admiration for the Xunpu's distinctive folk customs. They were particularly impressed by the historical use of raw materials to create comfortable, durable, and practical homes, noting the unique layered texture of the oyster shells resembled fish scales.
The professors also had the chance to experience Xunpu's traditional costumes, including the zanhua.
"I want the world to know about this place and to come visit," said Cervera. At the end of the tour, the professors expressed their desire to share the beauty of Quanzhou and Xunpu village upon their return to Spain.
