Quangang district is on the south bank of Meizhou Bay in the middle coastal area of Fujian province. In 1996, Xiaocuo Economic Development Zone was established. On Dec 28, 2000, it received approval from the State Council to establish an administrative region called Quangang.

Quangang district covers 440 square kilometers, including 341 sq km of land. By the end of 2022, the permanent resident population was 361,000.

In 2023, Quangang's GDP reached 62.37 billion yuan ($8.6 billion).
