Quanzhou, a city in East China's Fujian province, recently issued development plans for six critical fields of the new material industry, to foster the city's economic growth.

The six fields are related to new chemical materials, semiconductor materials, high-performance ceramic materials, graphene materials, new textile materials and modern building materials.

The city will build a national-level advanced chemical material industrial base that focuses on developing advanced polymer materials such as high-performance resins, special rubbers, high-performance fibers and functional membranes.

Relying on leading companies such as Fujian Jinhua Integrated Circuit Co and Quanzhou San'an Optoelectronics Co, the coastal city will create a complete industrial chain of compound semiconductors.

Quanzhou will also achieve the industrialization of ceramic materials, such as silicon nitride and silicon carbide, through the development of special ceramic materials, zirconia ceramic materials, electronic ceramic materials and high-end ceramic capacitors.

In terms of graphene, the city will research the material's application on polymer materials, battery materials and anti-corrosion materials.

It will also promote the construction of several key projects, such as Jinjiang High-end Fabric Industrial Park, and develop green biodegradable fibers, functional textile fabrics and graphene modification.

Through industrial projects – including artificial quartz plates, functional coatings and manufacturing structural parks, among others – Quanzhou aims to build an eco-friendly industrial park.
