The main stadium for the upcoming prestigious international sporting event called Gymnasiade 2020 had a watershed moment recently at its site in Jinjiang in Quanzhou, a city of East China's Fujian province, according to local officials.

They reported that the construction of the gymnasium, swimming center and training hall of the Jinjiang No 2 Sports Center had been completed and officially delivered for use on March 31.

Gymnasiade 2020 is an international multi-sport event for youth aged 13-18, running every two years, that is organized by the Brussels-based International School Sport Federation.

It is scheduled to be held in Jinjiang on Oct 17-24.

As the largest indoor gymnasium in Fujian province, the new facility can accommodate up to 15,000 spectators, with a total construction area of about 62,700 square meters.

It also can host NBA-standard basketball events, meet the needs of international professional sporting events such as volleyball, badminton, table tennis and also can undertake large-scale cultural performances, as well as commercial functions.

According to project leader of the sports center, the swimming pool, training pool and jumping pool in the center's swimming center have all adopted the most advanced automatic gravity type dissolved oxygen filtration water treatment system in China -- and adopted sodium hypochlorite disinfection to resolve any water quality problems.

He said the entire indoor swimming complex has also adopted a constant temperature and humidity air treatment system, which can provide a more comfortable environment for participants and spectators.

Jinjiang No 2 Sports Center has a total planned land area of 23.5 hectares and a total construction area of 188,000 sq m. The project mainly includes gymnasium, natatorium, training hall and athletes' living area. Meanwhile, basketball park, national fitness area, commercial and parking garage are built.
