Quanzhou Jinjiang International Airport to break ground
As a key project in East China’s Fujian province, the expansion and reconstruction of Quanzhou Jinjiang International Airport is expected to start at the end of the year and be put into use by the end of 2022.
At present, the airport's terminal was designed to meet the throughput of 4 million passengers, while the control tower was designed to handle daily takeoffs and landings of 100 flights.
But by the end of last year, the passenger throughput of the airport had reached more than 8 million.
Officials said that the existing infrastructure could no longer meet the airport's needs.
They said the project will expand the existing domestic and international terminals, with an expansion of 26,000 square meters, and build two corridor bridges in the new terminal.
It will support the expansion and renovation of the water supply and drainage, fire protection, as well as the power supply and distribution facilities in the terminal.
In addition, it will relocate the control tower and air traffic control buildings and update air traffic control systems.
After the reconstruction, the terminal will be able to handle the throughput of 10 million passengers and the control tower will be able to handle daily takeoffs and landings of 300 flights.
