Overseas Chinese donate to Nan’an amid epidemic
Nan’an, a county-level city under the administration of Quanzhou city in East China’s Fujian province, received donations of 1 million yuan ($142,379.16) for the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic on Feb 16, according to local officials.
It was donated by the Philippine Nan’an General Association, Philippine Nan’an Chamber of Commerce and the board of directors of the Philippine Fengshan Temple.
Officials said this is the largest overseas donation received since the city launched appeal for donations of medical and protective materials.
Although natural disasters occurred in the Philippines not long ago, officials said the Nan’an people in the Philippines are still concerned about the epidemic prevention work in their hometown while carrying out disaster relief work.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic, Nan’an enterprises, social groups and people from all walks of life at home and abroad have donated money and materials to contribute to Nan’an’s efforts in epidemic prevention and control.
As of 4 pm on Feb 16, the cumulative donation fund of Nan’an had reached 35.03 million yuan, officials added.
