Wang said Quanzhou achieved GDP growth of around 8 percent in 2019. The added value of industries above a designated size – a statistical term -- grew by 8.5 percent and the added value of the tertiary industry increased by 8 percent.

Establishment of industrial chains

According to the work report, the city expects to see 140 key new manufacturing projects established in 2020 with a total investment of 225.6 billion yuan ($32.84 billion), of which 30 are expected to go into production, aiming to build a solid foundation for the city's manufacturing industry.

Various new industrial parks will be established to boost the establishment of industrial chains in areas such as integrated circuits, compound semiconductors, sensors and optoelectronics.

Meanwhile, more than 300 leading businesses -- in traditional sectors such as textile and clothing, footwear, building materials and home furnishings -- will be fostered to transform and upgrade industry.

Development of innovation-oriented economy

Quanzhou will continue to evolve as a national independent innovation demonstration zone in the current year. It will strive to attract 900 high-tech companies to locate in the city and increase overall corporate research and development expenditure by more than 20 percent.

In 2020, the city will start construction of "Quanzhou Science City" and offer help to the Maritime Silk Road Time Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences – to establish a space-time big data industrial park and the Intelligent Manufacturing College in the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The China (Quanzhou) Intellectual Property Protection Center will be funded, so as to add fuel to the reforms of the national intellectual property operation service system and prepare the city for a new era of artificial intelligence and big-data industry.

Acceleration of digital industry

The three-year action plan to build a "digital Quanzhou" will be carried forward in 2020.

Quanzhou will integrate and upgrade several industrial internet demonstration platforms for traditional industries and support the development of a group of leading enterprises in software, big data and information services.

About 10 digital economy demonstration parks are expected to be established in 2020, including Quanzhou Software Park and EC Industrial Park.

The city will also improve its digital infrastructures and install more than 10,000 5G base stations, aiming to largely intensify the signal strength in Quanzhou.
