A new international media platform for Quanzhou city of East China's Fujian province, including an English-language news website and an English twitter page, went online on Nov 22.

Backed by China Daily and the publicity department of the CPC Quanzhou Municipal Committee, the platform aims to help connect the city with an international audience, telling stories about Quanzhou to the outside world and promoting its economic and cultural events.

The newly-launched media platform aims to increase the city's role in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and further improve its international visibility, reputation and influence.

The English-language website has seven main sections: About, Regions, What's on, Maritime Art Festival, Business, Travel & Culture, and Services. It is destined to be an important gateway for foreigners eager to learn more about the city.

Quanzhou's global English-language twitter page -- integrated with the website as an overseas social media platform for Quanzhou's real-time information dissemination -- is set to comprehensively introduce the city's economic development, historical background and cultural activities to visitors overseas by means of image-text and video promoting methods.

Both the website and the twitter page will report on major events in Quanzhou, such as the Maritime Silk Road International Arts Festival and activities related to the ancient Quanzhou historical relics, aiming to provide up-to-date news and insights for readers and followers located in China and abroad.

Quanzhou, located in southeastern Fujian province, is one of the three major cities of Fujian province. The time-honored and economically prosperous city is the hometown of many overseas Chinese, a multi-cultural center, and the starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Road.

China Daily, founded in 1981, is a leading Chinese news agency with a growing international audience. It has become the country's most influential English-language comprehensive multimedia outlet and has launched over 200 English-language websites for local governments, institutions and businesses.
