Wang Yanbin (886-930) was born in Quanzhou. He was in charge of the military and government of Quanzhou for 16 years. During that period, he developed agricultural production and overseas trade.

He believed in Buddhism, not only inviting eminent monks to Quanzhou Kaiyuan Temple to spread sutra, but also building Fayun Temple, Jiaozhong Temple and Fuqing Temple, among others, which led to the flourishing of Buddhism in Quanzhou.
