Xinfeng town in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, has been planting ginger over large areas since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and at the beginning of the 20th century its ginger was sold overseas, including in Japan and Russia.

This year, the ginger planting area in Xinfeng town is over 9,000 mu (600 hectares) – a record high.

About 1,800 farmers in the town are involved in ginger planting, and the output accounted for half of the province's total. This year's output value is expected to exceed 200 million yuan ($29.19 million).

Xinfeng tender ginger can be sold at a price of about 60 yuan per kilogram, while the price of a can of pickled tender ginger weighing 200 gram in net weight can reach 25 yuan.

Xinfeng Ginger Development Co Ltd's sales of pickled tender ginger exceed 250 kg a day.

Wu Xia, a resident of Xinfeng town, established an e-commerce company last year, and the daily sales volume of its pickled tender ginger products on Taobao currently range from 3,000 to 4,000 pieces. They are sold in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing and other places.
