​Jiaxing's foreign trade surpasses 98b yuan in Q1

The imports and exports of Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province totaled 98.44 billion yuan ($14.5 billion) in the first quarter of 2022, an increase of 21.3 percent year-on-year, according to Jiaxing Customs.

The city's export value stood at 71.11 billion yuan, an increase of 18.8 percent year-on-year, while the import value expanded 28.1 percent to 27.33 billion yuan.

During this period, the city's top five export markets were European Union, the United States, ASEAN, India and Latin America. Its export volume with these economies was 14.71 billion yuan, 13.91 billion yuan, 8.19 billion yuan, 4.83 billion yuan and 4.65 billion yuan respectively, up 39 percent, 12.2 percent, 6.2 percent, 110 percent and 20.8 percent.

Meanwhile, ASEAN, South Korea, European Union, Japan and Africa were the top five import markets for the city. The imports with these economies reached 6.89 billion yuan, 3.27 billion yuan, 3.26 billion yuan, 3 billion yuan and 1.78 billion yuan, respectively, up 27 percent, 30.7 percent, 5.5 percent, 22.2 percent and 51.7 percent.

In addition, the city's export volume with the RCEP member countries amounted to 16.31 billion yuan, an uptick of 7.2 percent, while its import volume with these countries reached 14.29 billion yuan, rising 27.3 percent.

The imports of basic organic chemicals, refined oil, plastics, paper pulp and paper products and metal ore and ore reached 6.02 billion yuan, 910 million yuan, 800 million yuan, 620 million yuan and 410 million yuan respectively, increasing by 35.5 percent, 190 percent, 29.3 percent, 54.4 percent and 160 percent.

The price increase of bulk commodities had to a certain extent driven the rise in import value of resource-based commodities, according to authorities.
